It was a real treat to run on the track at the BMW Performance driving center next to Spartanburg, SC. The facility was gorgeous and the track had a ton of configuration and was basically an glorified AutoX course. The ...

In the afternoon we ran another race with a slightly different layout. The track was a little faster with this configuration. I was able to push the car a little further and shave some time off my initial session. We ...

Another exciting day here at the 2011 One Lap of America event. We made our way to Carolina Motorsports Park in Kershaw, SC.  Since the Lister is down and not able to run, we had to improvise and get another ...

With parts being Fed-Ex’d to Daytona to fix the Lister, we’re skipping Summit Point on our way to Carolina Motorsports Park to get caught up and sort some car-livability issues for the road.Last night at midnight we met “The Super ...

IMG00336-20110430-0957

Unfortunately we were unable to make the second event. We left Tire Rack and eveything was going fine. We were making adjustments to the car and really getting all the bugs sorted. Then all of the sudden we lost all ...

IMG00334-20110430-0956

We were rushing to get the tires mounted on the car. Since we were unable to get any 17" wheels, we had to try to find something for the 16" wheels on the Lister. The only tires in stock legal ...

While driving throiugh Texas the front strap broke holding the Lister on the trailer. The Lister fell off the back of the trailer and was only held on by the two rear straps. The two rear wheels were touching the ...

TomTomMap

Wow, we got a really late start on our drive out of California to the 2011 One Lap of America race. We are probably going to have to drive the entire 26 hour trip without stopping except for gas and bathroom ...

I could feel it in my bones...something wasn't quite right. After the heads were on, by the time I got to the third cylinder, I figured it out. The guide plates were sized for my old 3/8" pushrods. But, ...

AFRValveCoverMockup

Whereas I got lucky with Lister Bob's repair on the cylinder head yesterday, today was a different story. Turns out, metal shavings went everywhere inside the heads. The only way out is a complete disassembly and thorough cleaning before reassembly. With ...

FuelInjectionPump

Today, I tackled the last of the "Dreaded Unknowns": pushrod interference at the intake ports.   Before we loaded the engine into the truck to head over to use Bob's air compressor at his shop for the grinding work, Bob welded up ...

CamSheetComparison

Push rod alignment might take some time with a die grinder to make it work, but AFR told me not to do it. Since they gave me the 0.050" offset rockers, they might take them back and replace them with ...

Tranny Tunnel & Cam Degreeing pics. I was relieved to learn last night's piston-to-valve contact didn't cause any damage.  However, I was sweating bullets when I dialed in the cam and spun it. The good news is that, when the cam is ...

FuelInjectionParts

I dropped the motor/tranny in using the new brackets Bob made, and everything mechanical hooks up...including the driveshaft. I still have to make some new ground straps, since the old tranny used smaller bolts, and I used the tranny mounts for ...

I got lucky today. View Gallery I had a major, cuss-fest last night under the car when I failed to get the shift linkage to work properly.  Once out of the car, Mike Powell and I looked at it.  Mike noticed that ...

Holysht. So now the question is how are we suppose to participate in a race that starts in two weeks when we don't even have an ENGINE in our car yet??? This blog isn't for the faint of heart.  Only a true ...

FuelInjectionWireing

The wiring was a bitch!...but I got it done! Hallelujah! Every step has to be carefully analyzed, because if something is missed it could leave us stranded in the middle of the night.  Major FML.  Fuel sprayed everywhere since I had ...

OilPanWetSumpV6

I yanked it out tonight, since I didn't want to leave anything to chance...good thing. I'm 99% sure the motor was starved for oil and the lack of oil pressure caused the cam follower to lunch...which was my canary in the ...

AckermanLine

Good news. Today, I went to the best high-performance engine machine shop (read: expensive) in HB - they've done the heads on the Lister before.  $358...not bad! Bad news. Called Scat Enterprises to find out what kind of crank would be good for the 400 Donovan.  He ...

EYE CANDY One goal to make the skid pad easier, is to make the front sway bar adjustable and fix the Ackerman....no rear bar.  Plans are to slide a collar over the end of the sway bar, and the rod ends will ...

RtWhlTurnedRt

Quick update!  Today, I put the 10" wheels from the rear on the front to see how much fiberglass "massaging" would be needed.  The good news is they fit without interfering with the Lockeed IndyCar brakes or steering linkage....HUGE relief.  ...

AFRValveCoverMockup

Woohoot!  Found a way to save money on the trailer... http://www.uhaul.com/Reservations/EquipmentDetail.aspx?model=ST $15/day, gotta reserve one in South Bend, IN.  Then all I have to do is fab a hitch that attaches to the frame inside the trunk and goes through the license ...

Made our way south to Daytona International Speedway. What an impressive facility and track. We got to do a parade lap around the track and man that was a rush. It is hard to believe just how steep those banked turns are. On TV you don’t realize just how steep they are. When you get down on the track itself you see just how much incline exists.   We received the sensor from Ross at SDS and worked on it […]

It was a real treat to run on the track at the BMW Performance driving center next to Spartanburg, SC. The facility was gorgeous and the track had a ton of configuration and was basically an glorified AutoX course. The BMW drivers even put on some exhibition runs in some M5’s. The track had a blind drop off that after you got it sorted was pretty kewl. Check out the In-Car videos

Another exciting day here at the 2011 One Lap of America event. We made our way to Carolina Motorsports Park in Kershaw, SC.  Since the Lister is down and not able to run, we had to improvise and get another vehicle. It’s amazing what you can find when you start looking. We were able to source a 2010 Mercedes C300 with a 228hp V-6motor. That would be plenty for us to have some fun out on the track. The first […]
